CA PROP 65 PHTHALATES

CA PROP 65 PHTHALATES (VIA METHOD CPSC-CH-E1001-09.4)

Standard Operating Procedure for Determination of Phthalates

We use this method to determine the amount of phthalates in plasticized components and coatings of consumer products which will be sold in California. TTL Laboratories maintains ISO 17025 accreditation for phthalates analysis and is also a CPSC-accepted laboratory for this test. The sample material is first reduced to small pieces or a powder, then it is extracted with solvent. The extraction may be performed with a pressurized microwave vessel, or with a Soxhlet extractor, which uses a heating element and specialized glassware to allow the phthalate compounds to move into the solvent solution. The solution is then reduced down to a known final volume and analyzed via a GC-MS (gas chromatography- mass spectrometry) instrument. The phthalate compounds listed under CA Prop 65 are DEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP, DIDP, and DnHP.
